Air Vice-Marshal G M Waterfall CBE to be Chief of Staff (Operations) in the Permanent Joint Headquarters with effect from 16 May 2016 in succession to Air Vice-Marshal S D Atha CB DSO whose next appointment is yet to be announced.

Air Commodore C R Elliot CBE to be promoted Acting Air Vice-Marshal and appointed Chief of Staff Personnel and Air Secretary, Headquarters Air Command in July 2016 in succession to Air Vice-Marshal D J Stubbs OBE, who is retiring from the Service

Air Vice-Marshal S C Gray OBE to be Air Officer Commanding No 38 Group, Headquarters Air Command with effect from 16 June 2016 in succession to Air Vice-Marshal T L J Bishop CB who is retiring from the Service.

Air Vice-Marshal J A Young CB OBE to be promoted Air Marshal and to be Chief of Materiel (Air) in the Defence Equipment & Support Organisation and Chief Engineer (Royal Air Force) with effect from 29 April 2016 in succession to Air Marshal S J Bollom KBE CB who is leaving the Service. In addition, Air Vice-Marshal Young is appointed to the Air Force Board as the Air Member for Materiel on the same date.


Group Captain J P Wariner to be promoted Air Commodore and to be Air Officer A6 and A6 Force Commander, Headquarters Air Command with effect from 1 April 2016 in succession to Air Commodore C J Moore whose appointment as Head Operate & Defend, Information Systems and Services, Joint Forces Command has previously been announced.

Air Commodore H Smyth OBE DFC to be Lightning Force Commander, Royal Air Force Marham with effect from 1 April 2016. This is a new post

Air Commodore J J Stringer to be Air Officer Commanding No 83 Expeditionary Air Group and United Kingdom Air Component Commander, Al Udeid, Qatar in November 2016 in succession to Air Commodore M E Sampson DSO whose next appointment is yet to be announced.


Group Captain A M Sansom to be promoted Air Commodore and to be Head Customer Support Team (Air) in the Defence Equipment & Support Organisation with effect from 24 June 2016 in succession to Air Commodore N Parton, who is leaving the Service.

Air Commodore A N C Reid to be Head Medical Strategy, Policy and Personnel, Headquarters Surgeon General in June 2016 in succession to Brigadier R H B Williamson QHS.

Group Captain C S Walton to be promoted Air Commodore and to be Air Officer Medical Operations, No 38 Group in June 2016 in succession to Air Commodore A N C Reid.



Group Captain R F J Clifford OBE to be promoted Air Commodore and to be Force Protection Force Commander, Air Officer Force Protection, Commandant General Royal Air Force Regiment and Air Officer Royal Air Force Police at Royal Air Force Honington with effect in April 2016 in succession to Air Commodore A J Hall MBE whose next appointment is yet to be announced.


Group Captain J M Dixon AFC to be promoted Acting Air Commodore and to be Deputy Commander NATO Air Command – Afghanistan in April 2016 in succession to Air Commodore S E Reeves whose appointment as Deputy Director Joint Warfare in Joint Forces Command has previously been announced.


Air Commodore C J Moore to be Head Operate and Defend, Information Systems and Services, Joint Forces Command with effect from 7 March 2016 in succession to Brigadier A G Hill.
Group Captain J Rolf to be promoted Air Commodore and to be Air Officer A6 and A6 Force Commander, Headquarters Air Command in April 2016 in succession to Air Commodore C J Moore.
