Biographical notes

Vice Admiral Philip A Jones CB. Joined Royal Navy 1978. Early service, as a bridge watchkeeper, navigator and Principal Warfare Officer in a number of Type 21 and Type 22 frigates, and in HM Yacht Britannia, included deployments to the South Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf and Far East. Commanded the frigate HMS Beaver from 1994-6. Attended the Joint Service Defence College. Directorate of Navy Plans MoD during 1997-8 SDR. Staff Operations Officer of the Flag Officer Surface Flotilla (FOSF). Captain of the frigate HMS Coventry 1999-2001. Military Assistant to the 4* Chief of Defence Logistics. Director Joint Maritime Operational Training Staff (JMOTS), running Joint Maritime Courses (now Joint Warriors). In 2004, as a Commodore, led the C4ISTAR Division of the Fleet Headquarters. 2006, as the Commander Amphibious Task Group (COMATG), he led the ATG on the Vela deployment to West Africa. JSCSC Shrivenham to complete Higher Command and Staff Course 2007. In 2008-9, as a Rear Admiral, COMUKMARFOR, Op Commander for EUNAVFOR Op Atalanta. Appointed Assistant Chief of Naval Staff 2009, member of the Navy Board, 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review and 2011 Defence Reform Review. Companion of the Order of the Bath in 2012 New Year's Honours. On promotion to Vice Admiral in December 2011 he became Deputy Commander-in-Chief Fleet, Chief of Staff Navy Command Headquarters and Chief Naval Warfare Officer. In April 2012 the title of Deputy Commander-in-Chief Fleet changed to Deputy Fleet Commander.

Rear Admiral Peter Derek Hudson CBE Joined the Royal Navy 1980. Commanding officer of the minesweeper HMS Cottesmore in 1994 (deployed on fishery protection duties), commanding officer of the frigate Norfolk 1996 and Fleet Operations Officer in 1998. Leader of the team rationalising the regional fleet headquarters 2000, commanding officer of the assault ship Albion 2002, Director of Naval Resources and Plans at the Ministry of Defence in 2005 and commander of the Amphibious Task Group in 2008 (deployed as commander of the maritime Coalition Task Force in the Gulf). Appointed Commander United Kingdom Maritime Forces in 2009 (deployed as commander of EU maritime operations off Somalia) and Chief of Staff (Capability) for the Fleet in 2011.

Rear Admiral Duncan L Potts Born 1961. Joined the Royal Navy 1979. Commanding Officer of the frigate HMS Brilliant 1996, Commanding Officer of the destroyer HMS Southampton in 1997. Member of the Policy and Programmes Cell at the Permanent Joint Headquarters in 1998. Commander Sea Training to the Flag Officer Sea Training in 1999. Appointed Commanding Officer of the frigate HMS Marlborough and Captain of the 4th Frigate Squadron 2000 and deployed to the Middle East. Captain Navy Plans then Military Assistant to the Vice-Chief of Defence Staff at the Ministry of Defence. Appointed Commander of the UK Task Group in 2007 (in which role he was deployed to the Gulf) and Assistant Chief of Staff (Crisis and Deliberate Planning) at Permanent Joint Headquarters in 2009. Commander United Kingdom Maritime Forces 2011. Deployed as Commander of EU maritime operations off Somalia from August 2011.

Cdr Robert K (Bob) Tarrant. Born 1961. Educated at Cheltenham College, Tarrant joined the Royal Navy in 1979 and saw action in the destroyer HMS Antrim during the Falklands War in 1982.[1] He was given command of the submarine HMS Talent in 1997 and the patrol ship HMS Endurance in 2007 and went on to be Commodore Naval Staff in December 2008.[1] After attending the Royal College of Defence Studies. Awarded South Atlantic Medal with rosette, Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal 2002, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012

Air Vice Marshal Grahame E Stacey CB, MBE. Born 1959. Commissioned Royal Air Force 1980. Early career included tours in Belize, the Falkland Islands and Loan Service with the Indonesian Army. As Squadron Leader formed and commanded a SAM Squadron in Yorkshire, served as a Liaison Officer at the UK Defence Research Agency and a desk officer in the UK Ministry of Defence Joint Service Operational Requirements branch. Wing Commander 1994, posted to Headquarters Air Command. 1997 on the staff of High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. 1998 commanded RAF Tactical Survive to Operate (Force Protection) Headquarters, Iraq and Kuwait. Group Captain 1999. Assistant Director Directorate of Joint Warfare. Commanded RAF Honington 2001. Commanded multinational ISAF 1 Detachment at Kabul Airfield in Afghanistan. Deputy Senior British Military Representative (Iraq) based within CJTF-7 in Baghdad 2003. Promoted to Air Commodore. ACOS J7/Director Joint Warfare Training Centre within the UK's Permanent Joint Headquarters 2004. NATO Joint Forces Command Brunssum leading the J3 Ops Division. 2008 promoted AVM and joined US CENTRAL COMMAND (Tampa) in 2009 as Senior British Military Advisor to General David Petraeus and the HQ. appointed Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas and Commander British Forces Cyprus 2010. Awarded an MBE for services in Indonesia, a QCVS for Op DESERT FOX and was appointed a Companion of the Order of Bath in 2011.

Maj General N J Caplin CB Commissioned into Army Air Corps 1980. Served in Northern Ireland. Promoted to lieutenant colonel, a member of the Directing Staff at the Staff College, Camberley 1995. Commanding officer of 3 Regiment Army Air Corps at Wattisham 1997, involved in operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Joint Helicopter Force (Northern Ireland) 2000, Commandant of the School of Army Aviation in Middle Wallop 2001. Promoted to brigadier, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Joint Helicopter Command in 2003. Commander Collective Training Group 2006, Kosovo Protection Corps Co-ordinator 2008, General Officer Commanding United Kingdom Support Command (Germany) 2009.

Brig Peter Andrew Fox Commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Artillery 1980. Early service in Germany and the UK in field artillery regiments and as a Forward Air Controller. Army Command and Staff Course 1989-90. Military Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence during Op Granby and subsequent operations in Northern Iraq.Lieutenant Colonel 1997. Assumed responsibility for R&D planning and operational requirements definition for the filed artillery equipment at MoD. Moved to Defence Equipment & Support as Director Team Complex Weapons Surface Attack 2008. 2009 Head of Programmes leading on equipment and support planning for operations; programme and financial management across the Operating Centre; and technology and weapons integration strategies.

Air Cdre Malcolm A B Brecht CBE Joined the RAF as a University Cadet 1983. Flying the HS125 and BAe146 in the Royal/VIP and Communications role and the TriStar in AT and AAR roles, served as Personal Staff Officer to Air Officer Commanding. Appointed Officer Commanding 99 Squadron introducing the C-17. Exercise SAIF SAREEA II, Ops VERITAS in Afghanistan and TELIC in Iraq. Posted to Air Resources and Plans 2003. 2005 returned to Iraq as Commander Basrah Air Station / 903 Expeditionary Air Wing. Command of RAF Brize Norton and a brief spell back in MOD. 2009-10 NATO's Commander of Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. Secondment to the Cabinet-Office to lead the Defence Team for the SDSR. Air Commodore of the Air Staff, focusing on implementing the Defence Review and Defence Transformation.

Brig Tim J Bevis RM Educated RNSC/JSCSC/KCL. Commando Training Centre Royal Marines and Initial Royal Navy and Royal Marines Training Group, HQ ISAF, Joint Force Headquarters

Cdre Paul A Chivers OBE joined the Royal Navy in 1981. A qualified Lynx helicopter pilot, he has taken part in two frontline tours in the South Atlantic. Commanding officer RNAS Yeovilton June 2011.

Brigadier  C Mark Abraham completed training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1982 and served initially in Germany. He later moved back to UK spending 2 years as the diving officer of a landing craft regiment and several years as a Commando in the UK and Norway. He was an adjutant in the first Gulf War in 1991 in Kuwait and Iraq before attending the Army's Staff College. This was followed by appointments in training and the Ministry of Defence. He returned to the Field Army as a Squadron Commander and later as a Commanding Officer of a Regiment that, during his time, served in Iraq, Afghanistan and took on the responsibility for providing emergency fire service in three counties during the 2003 Fireman's Strike. He has subsequently been a Divisional Director at the Command and Staff College and worked in Army policy and doctrine. He was the head of Employment, Equality and Diversity for 3 years and is now a Chief of Staff. He sits on the board of Race for Opportunity and has advised the US and other nations on multiculturalism in Armed Forces.

Colonel Army Equipment Plans 2006-09. Assistant Head Land Plans, DE&S Resources and Plans, 2009-11. Commander Equipment Capability, Head of Engineering Operations and Equipment acquisition for the UK in Afghanistan, 2011-12.
