Service appointments: March 2010

The following service appointments have been announced:

Army

Lieutenant-General Sir Nick Parker, KCB, CBE, Late Royal Green Jackets, currently Deputy Commander International Security Assistance Force and United Kingdom National Contingent Commander – Afghanistan, to be Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, in the rank of General, in succession to General Sir John McColl, KCB, CBE, DSO, in February 2011.

Major-General T.P. Evans, DSO, MBE, Late Light Infantry, currently Chief of Staff Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, to be Chief of Staff International Security Assistance Force Joint Command – Afghanistan, in succession to Major-General C. J. Boag, CBE, in December 2010.

Brigadier P.D. Jones, MBE, Late Royal Anglian Regiment, currently Assistant Defence Attaché and Head British Army  Staff (United States), to be Director Force Reintegration, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force – Afghanistan, in the rank of Major-General, in succession to Major-General R.L. Barrons, CBE, in May 2010.

Brigadier S.L. Porter, CBE, Late Royal Anglian Regiment, currently Assistant Chief of Staff J5 Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, to be Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Representative Europe, in the rank of Major-General, in succession to Rear-Admiral Jorgen Berggrav, Royal Norwegian Navy, in December 2010.

Major-General R.L. Barrons, CBE, (Late Royal Regiment of Artillery), currently Director Force Reintegration, Headquarters International Security Assistance - Afghanistan, to be Assistant Chief of the General Staff, in succession Major-General J.J.C. Bucknall, CBE, in July 2010.

Major-General J.H. Gordon, CBE, (Late Royal Green Jackets), currently Commander British Forces Cyprus and Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, to be Senior British Loan Service Officer Oman, in succession to Major-General A.E. Whitley, CMG, CBE, in January 2011.

Major-General N.P. Carter, CBE, (Late Royal Green Jackets), currently General Officer Commanding 6th (UK) Division to be Director-General  Land Warfare, in succession to Major-General A.C.P. Kennett, CBE, in February 2011.

Brigadier M.D. Conway (Late Adjutant General's Corps (Army Legal Services)), currently Member Royal College of Defence Studies, to be Director General Army Legal Services, in the rank of major-general, in succession to Major-General D.M. Howell, CB, OBE, in October 2010.

Royal Navy

Rear Admiral S. B. Charlier to be Director of Operating Airworthiness within the Military Aviation Authority with effect from April 1, 2010. This is a new 2* post.

Commander P.E. Jessop, MBE, Royal Navy, to be promoted captain and to be Astute Class Commisioning Manager Barrow, in succession to Acting Captain M. K. Abbey, Royal Navy, with effect from March 2010.

Commander C.R. Clough, Royal Navy, to be promoted captain and to begin language training, with effect from April 2010, before attending the CHEM with effect from September 2010.

Commander P.G.J. Dailey, Royal Navy, to be promoted acting captain and to be Submarine CSSE SP50 (USA), within the Defence Equipment and Support, in succession to Commander M. Scott, Royal Navy, with effect from June 2010.

Brigadier M. W. Dunham, OBE, Royal Marines, to be Chief of Staff to Nato Training Mission (Afghanistan) within the International Stabilisation Assistance Force, with effect from July 2010.

Captain S. A. Taylor, Royal Navy, to be Assistant Director Change Development within the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency in succession to Captain P. E. Smithson, Royal Navy, with effect from April 2010.

Surgeon Captain A. S. Hughes, Royal Navy, to be Assistant Head Medical Strategic Policy within Surgeon General's Department in succession to Group Captain A. N. C. Reid, RAF, with effect from May 2010.

Captain P. J. A. Buckley, Royal Navy, to be Captain Faslane Flotilla in succession to Captain A. M. McKendrick, OBE, Royal Navy, with effect from Jun 2010.

Captain J. G. Pett, Royal Navy, to be Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff (Training Capability) within Navy Command Headquarters in succession to Captain P. J. A. Buckley, Royal Navy, with effect from June 2010.

Captain G. G. J. Derrick, Royal Navy, to be Deputy Commander Maritime Reserves within Navy Command Headquarters in succession to Colonel T. P. W. Middleton, Royal Marines, with effect from September 2010.

Surgeon Commander S. W. S. Millar, Royal Navy, to be promoted Surgeon Captain and to be Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff Medical Operations within Navy Command Headquarters in succession to Surgeon Captain A. S. Hughes, Royal Navy, with effect from May 2010.

Commander N. G. Amphlett, Royal Navy, to be promoted Captain and to be Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff Media within Navy Command Headquarters in succession to Captain G. B. Sutton, Royal Navy, with effect from May 2010.

Commander A. I. Harris, Royal Navy, to be promoted Captain and to be Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff (Aviation) in succession to Captain G. L. Doyle, Royal Navy, with effect from July 2010.

Surgeon Commander J. G. Sharpley, Royal Navy, to be promoted Acting Surgeon Captain and to be the Defence Consultant Adviser in Psychiatry in succession to Group Captain A. N. C. Reid, RAF, with effect from May 2010.

Royal Air Force

Lord Beaverbrook has been appointed the Honorary Inspector General of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force with effect from October 19, 2009, in the honorary rank of Air Vice-Marshal, in succession to Air Marshal (retired) I. D. MacFadyen, CB, OBE.

Air Vice-Marshal T. M. Anderson, CB, DSO, to be promoted air marshal and to be Director General of the Military Aviation Authority on April 1, 2010. This is a new 3-star appointment. Air Vice-Marshal Anderson's previously announced appointment as Deputy Commander-in-Chief (Operations) Air Command is cancelled.

Air Vice-Marshal A. D. Pulford, CBE, to be promoted air marshal and to be Deputy Commander-in-Chief (Operations) Air Command in August 2010, in succession to Air Marshal I. W. McNicoll, CB, CBE, who is retiring from the service.

Air Vice-Marshal C. W. Dixon, OBE, to be Commander Joint Helicopter Command in March 2011, in succession to Rear Admiral C. A. Johnstone-Burt, OBE.

Air Vice-Marshal C. W. Ness, CB, to be Director of Technical Airworthiness in the Military Aviation Authority on April 1, 2010. This is a new 2-star appointment.

Air Commodore A. J. Dey to be Deputy Commander Combined Air Operations Centre 1, Finderup Denmark, in August 2010, in succession to Brigadier Sliwka, Polish Air Force.

Air Commodore G. Moulds, CBE, to be Commander Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, on May 1, 2010, in succession to Air Commodore M. A. B. Brecht, CBE, whose next appointment as Air Commodore Air Staff, Ministry of Defence, in August 2010, has previously been announced.

Air Commodore R. A. Williams, OBE, ADC, relinquished his regular commission on November 17, 2009. He will continue exercising his responsibilities as Air Officer Wales and Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty The Queen as a member of the Royal Air Force Reserve.

Air Commodore A. D. Stevenson, OBE, ADC, to be Assistant Chief of Staff A3 Headquarters Air Command, in June 2010, in succession to Air Commodore M. J. M. Jenkins, OBE, whose next appointment as Assistant Chief of Staff A7 at THE Permanent Joint Headquarters has already been announced.

Group Captain H. G. Donohoe was promoted air commodore on January 11, 2010, when he took over as Head of Typhoon, Defence Equipment & Support, in succession to Air Vice-Marshal C. R. Bushell.

Group Captain M. A. Sibley, CBE, to be promoted air commodore on March 31, 2010, and to be Head of Helicopters 3, Defence Equipment and Support, in succession to Air Commodore D. A. Whittaker, OBE, MVO, who is leaving the service.
